Jesus Confronts Thomas

30

Thomas "will not believe." Unbelief is a willful and deliberate thing. Though he is a believer, here he is classic unbeliever in his attitude. Unbelievers think they should get special demonstrations of proof beyond what others get. Unbelievers are not satisfied with the testimony of trustworthy eyewitnesses. Unbelievers are not satisfied with the record of the Bible. They insist on extra proofs and declare that they will not believe, unless... Unfortunately, they will not get the kind accommodation that Jesus gave Thomas. Either they will accept the testimony of scripture -- the same kind of eyewitness testimony they do in fact accept with respect to all other historical accounts -- or they will demand extra signs. If they insist on the latter, they will be sorely disappointed. Christ is risen. He is risen, indeed. The Bible declares this fact, and the Bible is enough!
