Those that responded to John's preaching were then baptized as they confessed their sins (Matthew 3:6). John's baptism is specifically called a "baptism of repentance" in Acts 19:4. But why baptism? What was it? What was it supposed to do? Why was it done? And why was Jesus baptized?
