Preparation for Battle

Faith doesn't work to obtain or earn the promises of God, but true faith works BECAUSE of the promises. Faith never works alone, but according to the promises of God. Previously, the children of Israel had been fed manna daily and guided by the cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night. Now this was behind them, and the men had been circumcised, and the Passover once again observed. The race is not to the swift, or the battle to the strong, and now the children of Israel had a time of standing still before the battle of Jericho. They must find their strength in the promises of God alone.
