Re-learning how to Undress
Now we are moving on to the second great benefit that we receive from Christ: our sanctification: that internal process where God's Spirit changes our character and makes us to look like our older brother Jesus. We are moving from God's saving us from the penalty of sin, to saving us from the presence of our sin, from what God has done for us to what he is doing in us.
Sanctification is a great paradox. The more holy you become the more you feel the weight of your sin. It hurts like anything, and is only bearable because it feels so good.

  1. Sanctification and Justification: Distinct but never Separate
    A. Never Separate
Romans 6:1-5 What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound?
2 By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it? 3 Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his.

B. Always Distinct
Romans 7:24-8:1 Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? 25 Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself serve the law of God with my mind, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin.
