Building a Happy Home Part 2

Just as every earthly parent wants his children to be happy, the Bible is clear that our Father in heaven also wants His children to be happy. The Lord Jesus began His great sermon on the mount in Matthew 5 with a prescription for happiness as contained in the beatitudes, and the Lord also began the song-book of Israel, the Psalms, with a prescription for happiness in Psalm 1. To be happy we must reject the ungodly counsel of this world, saturate ourselves with the Word of God, and commit ourselves to obedience. As the hymn says, "Trust and obey, for there's no other way, to be happy in Jesus..."

Nowhere is it more true than in the home, that if we want to be happy we must reject what the world says and obey God's word. Part 1 in this series dealt with the father's role in building a happy home. Part 2 deals with the mother's crucial role and explains how Proverbs 14:1 says she must chose between either wisely building the home, or tearing it down with her own hands. A godly woman must recognize that just as the Lord Jesus' voluntary subjection to His earthly parents was to His honor and His glory, even so the wife's God-ordained position of subjection and submission to her husband is not a thing to be despised; it is not to her shame or demeaning, but is actually to her honor and to her glory. It is not a matter of ability, intellect or education; it is a matter of accepting God's perfect will as revealed in His created order, and as also revealed in His Redemptive Pattern.
