Our Eyes Look To The Lord Our God

30

It is in the Scriptures that we find the revealed Word of God. It is in the Scriptures that the mysteries are revealed and the true doctrines of sin, salvation and service are expounded. It is in the Scriptures that we discover what we could not otherwise know about the Savior of mankind; the Lord Jesus Christ. All of this is true and so much more. And yet, what is often overlooked is that the Scriptures are eminently practical. In them we find soaring revelation of God's unfolding eternal decrees unto the appointed end, and we also find simple exhortations to trust God for our daily bread, the clothes on our backs and the roofs over our heads. (Matthew 6) In the Scriptures we read of the ultimate victory of God our Creator over sin, death, and the devil as well as the continuing fight each and every one of us has against, "the devil, the world, and our own flesh." (Heidelberg Catechism Q/A 127) Today's text is an example of both: the doctrinal and the practical. This psalm acknowledges that there will be trial and that there will be those who have contempt for the Lord and His people. But we are also encouraged to look up. To seek our hope and deliverance from the God of heaven and the Lord Jesus Christ – the Risen Lord. – Pastor Schlegel
