Ding Dong the Witch is Dead

The words of King David,"How are the mighty fallen" stand in stark contrast to the song title "Ding Dong, the witch is dead", which some chose to apply to Lady Thatcher. David spoke with deep sincerity concerning Saul his persecutor. There was much that he could have said and what he said was truthful but he left much unsaid as not appropriate to the occasion. He would not dishonour a former leader. Why was this? David was not only truthful, he was compassionate and this removed bitterness and recrimination. Why was it so necessary that truth and love should blend in David? The lament expresses not only what was true in a spirit of love but expressed genuine sorrow. The expression of sorrow can have powerful effects on others for good but in what way? There was no "Ding Dong, the witch is dead". In fact the witch was not dead but, as far as we know, still alive and there is a hidden message in this for our generation today. What is it? Debates about Thatcherism will go on but what is the important message for our politicians in being present at the funeral of such a prominent UK leader? What should we lay to heart on such a day?
