Standing between the living and the dead

This chapter relates the rebellion of Korah, Dathan and, Abiram and their ultimate destruction.

The next day after God's judgment of these men the congregation of the children of Israel murmur against Moses and Aaron for what was done.

This murmuring brings down further judgment upon them in the form of a plague. It is the subsequent spread of this plague throughout the camp which occasions Moses to instruct Aaron to run with the censer in his hand into the midst of the camp, stand between the living and the dead and stay the plague.

In these events we have a foreshadowing of the work of Jesus Christ on behalf of another people facing the devastating consequences of a spreading plague.

Aaron is a type of Christ standing between the living and the dead.
