Encounter with the Risen Christ
The resurrection is key to the gospel, because the resurrection proves the gospel is real. The resurrection shows that Christianity is not simply another human philosophy - not just another way that we have invented to help us make sense of the world. The Resurrection puts Christianity in a class by itself. It is wholly different than any other worldview. Where other philosophies are internal - that is they rely on something we do, or how we think. Christianity is external - It is based something God does. It is based on a reality separate from ourselves. All other philosophies are subjective. Because of the resurrection, Christianity is objective. It is universally true.
Those who reject the Resurrection or its necessity do so precisely because they do not see Christianity as fundamentally different than other religions or worldviews. The resurrection makes all the difference.
The difference between a religion of man and a religion of God; a natural religion and a Supernatural one; One that offers incremental improvement to one that makes us a radical new creation. Changing every last aspect of our life and changing our eternal destiny.
