The Lord is Longsuffering

Israel was steeped in Baal worship, she had played the harlot and turned away backward from the Lord. Yet the Lord continued to persue Israel desiring to bring the estranged wanderer back to Himself. This is the longsuffering nature of the Lord to call home those who are wandering far from home. God is longsuffering to his people though He could as justly leave Israel in her sin and to her judgement. Jeremiah speaks the Word of the Lord and calls Iseral to return, repent and be restored. The compassionate plea is, I will call even "one from and city and two from a family". How evangelical of God to extend such mercy to his people. We all should rejoice in the longsuffering of the Lord for perhaps it is this very act of compassion that causes the Lord even now to stay His mighty hand and not judge us according to our sins, but to loving call us back to himself.
