We should not be ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ (Romans 1:16)

Let your life be consumed with, and devoted to, the infinitely valuable gospel of Jesus Christ

  1. The gospel strengthens Christians (v. 25-26a)
      A. It is the means by which God strengthens us (v. 25a)
        1. Every sermon should be a proclamation about Jesus Christ, and the gospel
        2. Do not underestimate the gospel, because it is the means by which Christians get strength
      B. It is the central message of the Bible (v. 25b-26a)
        1. It is the mystery of the Old Testament (v. 25b)
          a. Mystery: something previously concealed, but now revealed (Ephesians 3:4-6)
          b. Mystery revealed in the New Testament: the Gentiles be included in the same body of Jesus Christ
        2. It is the revelation of the New Testament (v. 26a)
          a. Gospel of Jesus
          b. Gospel going to all nations (Luke 24:46-48)
  2. The gospel converts unbelievers (v. 26b)
      A. It does so by the command of the eternal God
      B. It brings about the obedience of faith
        1. Obey the gospel: repent and believe (Romans 1:5)
  3. The gospel glorifies God (v. 27)
    A. It reveals His glory
    B. It is all about His glorious Son
