Christian Liberty Part 10

32

Review

The Principle of Edification - What was this?
The Principle of Promotion - What was this?
The Principle of Protection v. 24-27
The Principle of Caution

The Principle of Caution says we must exercise a realistic examination of ourselves in areas of temptation

It is true that all of my sins are covered because of the work of Christ, but that does not give me a license to continue in sin that grace might abound.

They also complained in the wilderness v. 10

The Complaint (1-3) - The rebels say, “Moses and Aaron, you have taken too much upon yourself.”

  1. Moses’s Response v. 7

  2. God’s Response (20-22)

But, to this point in our story there is no murmuring of the people, until . . . (41). The very next day, the Israelites claim that Moses and Aaron had killed God’s people!

So, God decides to send a plague upon the people (42-50)

Why would Paul appeal to this example with the Corinthians?

  • To show them that God takes complaining about his leadership and His gracious provision very seriously.

The Corinthians who thought that they were immovable were to take heed, lest they fall. What does Paul mean when he says fall?” Thoughts?

*Certainly not a lose of Salvation

  • Some says it is to be disqualified from the ministry.
  • Some say to die.
  • Maybe it is to fall in an area of temptation.

Have you failed to heed the warning of a gracious God upon your life?

As we stated before Paul uses Israel for two distinct purposes in this chapter. As we just saw:

  • Admonition v. 11-12 and now
  • Encouragement v. 13
