Accurately Proclaiming Christ

Christ forbids the twelve disciples from telling others that He was the Christ. This injunction requires that we ask, "Why?" Why would Christ prohibit spreading the knowledge of who He was? Yet, the context shows us that neither the crowds - nor even the disciples - properly understood the purpose of Messiah's work. Without this context, any proclamation that Jesus was the Christ would surely be misunderstood, and cause only harm. So, we must be sure that when we proclaim Christ, we do so accurately, fully, and biblically. Otherwise, we are contributing to falsehood about Christ, and corroding the glory which rightly is His.
