The next touch

The first touch is when Jesus saves us. But here in our text we see something unusual, Jesus had to touch this man's eyes a second time. It was not a touch of folly for Jesus succeeded. It was not a touch of failure because it took two times; the lesson required this to show him his greater need. Nor was it a touch of formality; Jesus broke the traditional rules by spitting on him to heal him, where as tradition said this was an insult (Numbers 12:14). There was more than one touch, for a higher purpose. And in our lives the repetition of touches that follow are also for a higher purpose; they are for our benefit in our Christian lives. We can never loose our salvation but we can be depleted in other areas of our new lives. The master will give us a touch to focus us and to help our faith grow. And because we are weak and He is strong He will give us a touch of fortitude to stand courageously. When sin enters our lives Jesus will touch us with forgiveness and best of all He will restore fellowship between us.
