The Authority of Christ Our King
Our culture is filled with celebrations. Elaborate plans are made each year for the Super Bowl. Currently many millions in our nation are gearing up for March Madness and the NCAA basketball tournament. Should we not with even greater joy celebrate what our Lord and Savior accomplished? Of course we cannot just manufacture this joy and excitement. The world around us is of little help. And so we must pray that our attention will not be distracted by all that the world worships but instead pray that our hearts will always be filled with worship for our Lord and Savior.
Traditionally this Sunday is called Palm Sunday in remembrance of Christ's humble but triumphal entry into the city of Jerusalem. For the last two Palm Sundays we have looked at this story in both Matthew and Luke. This morning I would like us to briefly consider the story as it continues to unfold in Luke 20. Christ did not show his authority simply in coming in triumph into the city but also as He continued his ministry in the temple after he had ceremonially cleansed it.
