Love One Another

Loving one another is the mutual duty of the members of Christ's Church. Christ gives a new commandment to his disciples to love one another. Biblical Love is obedience toward God's law with a heart of charity in fulfilling the duties we have toward our neighbors.

This new command is a given command, and an imitative command, and it is an evangelistic command. Jesus gives the command as he is about to die for his people providing a further definition of love. Jesus says that this is a new commandment; it is an old command raised to a new level and given a fresh significance to be exercised according to a new standard with a new power. We keep this command with the honoring of Christ in mind and for His sake. This command describes the method by which we are to imitate Christ. We are taught to love the brethren just as Jesus pours out his love on His elect people. By this obedience people will know that we are the true Disciples of Christ.
