Christ's Resurrection: The Cornerstone of our Faith

37

The pivotal event of all history is the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The truest symbol of Christianity is not a crucifix, but an empty tomb! Without the bodily resurrection of Christ on the third day, His crucifixion was only a martyrdom and tragedy. In 1 Corinthians 15, Paul gives a brilliant and irrefutable defense for his assertion that Christ's resurrection is the cornerstone of our faith. Everything that the child of God holds dear rises or falls with this cardinal doctrine.

It should not therefore come as a surprise that the doctrine of Christ's literal, bodily resurrection from the dead has been the object of Satan's most vitriolic attacks over the last 2,000 years. The fabrication of the soldiers who guarded the tomb of Joseph of Arimathaea at the instigation of the Sanhedrin was only the first in an endless series of attempts to explain away the miracle of Christ's resurrection.

The latest attack by the enemies of Christ is the recent documentary 'The Lost Tomb of Jesus' and its companion book The Jesus Family Tomb which claims that the burial place of Jesus and DNA evidence of His having born a son have been discovered. Even Jewish rabbis as well as church leaders and archeologists have dismissed this latest attack by Hollywood as 'fanciful and absurd.'

The doctrine of Christ's resurrection is the basis for the 'blessed hope' of the believer, but it is an awful guarantee of judgment for the unsaved (Acts 17:31).
