1689 Confession, 19-7, "Law of God": Harmony of Law & Grace
Series 1689 London Baptist Confession
1689 CONFESSION, CH. 19, "THE LAW OF GOD": PARAGRAPH 7: THE HARMONY OF LAW AND GOSPEL
SUMMARY (Waldron): The final comment of the Confession on the inherent obligation of the law of God is that the law and the gospel do not conflict (Gal. 3:21). Rather, the grace of the gospel and the Spirit of Christ enable us to do freely and cheerfully what God has revealed in law. How could the law and gospel conflict? The very purpose of the gospel is to deliver men from lawlessness and cause them to obey the law of God (Jer. 31:33; Ezek. 36:27; Rom. 8:4; Titus 2:14).
