A Night Much to be Remembered

156

The Scriptures show us that the Passover Lamb is a type of our Lord Jesus. When God sees our Savior's blood, He passes over us in the judgment, because He sees that our sins have already been judged in Jesus' death at Calvary.

The Passover Feast, which was to be celebrated every year, was a foreshadowing of the Lord's Supper, wherein we celebrate the Lord's death for us.

Just as Jews remembered the Passover redemption and salvation at the Passover feast, so too the Saints remember the cross redemption and salvation at the Lord's Table.

God's habit is to announce the celebration of His salvation before we see the salvation. Thus, God ordained the Passover celebration in Exodus 12 before Israel was set free.

By doing so, God demonstrates to His people that His salvation is sure, because He has determined it. God shows His confidence that He will perform what He has promised. God forecloses any claims by man that they had any part in conceiving the salvation. Finally, God encourages His people to expect the salvation that has been promised.

So too the Lord Jesus commanded the perpetual celebration of His death and redemption before it was accomplished. He knew He would not fail to save us!

Indeed, the Lord Jesus had great desire to celebrate the last passover and institute His Lord's Supper. All His life on earth, as the passover was celebrated, He knew that He was the Lamb Who would be slain for us. And now, at the end, He is about to become our Passover. How eager He was to see His people saved from judgment!

It is our very own Lamb that seeks that we should remember His death! And His celebration looks forward to a great reunion in Glory!
