The Work of the Holy Spirit in our Salvation

Shorter Catechism question 29: "We are made partakers of the redemption purchased by Christ, by the effectual application of it to us by his Holy Spirit."
In contrast with some modern views and practices, the principle work of the Holy Spirit is centred on salvation.

1. In order to salvation, we must be made partakers of it.
2. In order to salvation, it must be applied to us.
3. In order to salvation, the Holy Spirit must do the work.
   Application 1: the necessity of this application to salvation. 2: until Christ is ours we are and remain miserable sinners. 3: we must see the need of the application of Christ's work. 4: the evidence of the Spirt's work in application. 5: beware of resisting the Holy Spirit. 6: those who do not hear the Gospel cannot be saved.
