Pentecostal Power

81

Before Jesus ascended into Heaven He told His disciples that they were to be WITNESSES.

Every believer is called to be a witness.

At Pentecost the believers received the Holy Spirit and today when a person becomes a Christian they too receive the Holy Spirit.

The Feast of Pentecost here in Acts 2 Occurred 50 days after the Ressurection of Christ.

Fifty Days after the resurrection Christ, The Lord sent the Holy Spirit to indwell His followers.

Three things happened in Acts 2.1-4.

a. As the followers of Jesus were together there was the sound of a mighty wind.

b. There were tongues of fire that appeared upon them.

C. They began to speak in Tongues.

a. Wind is the Symbol of invisible power.
The Church from Pentecost onwards is empowered by an invisible force, the invisible force of the Spirit of God.

b. The Second Symbol seen at Pentecost was fire.

There were tongues as of fire that appeared upon the followers of Christ.

In the Old Testament Fire is seen as a purifying agent and it is also seen as a symbol of passion. Zech 13:9

The fire at Pentecost can remind us that the Church of Jesus Christ today still needs to be characterized by a Purity and a Passion.

I'm afraid that’s not what you can say of numbers of Churches in Australia today.

The Last days Church in the book of Revelation is pictured as the Church of Laedocia.

Was Laedocia known for its passion and purity? No it was known for its Luke Warmness.

The Church of Laedocia had lost its values, it had lost its vision and it had lost its vitality.

The Church born at Pentecost was to be a People of Power, a People of Purity and a people of passion.
