Disfigurement of love particularly has to do with defilement - by violating moral codes of acceptable sexual behavior.
The metal of the armor of God is love. Not an efeminite power, love is a masculine soldier that keeps its sword drawn and thus keeps lust at a distance. Love is our sword, like the cheribum of Eden, turning every way in flames against the evil that would invade the garden of our souls.
