Is the Christian faith relevant to business?
- 'I must be about my Father's business' (Luke 2.49)
(1) Jesus the Child had a very decided sense of purpose about life.
(2) Jesus the Carpenter was in business.
(3) Jesus the Christ was revealed more during his ministry. - 'Study to be quiet, & do your own business' (1 Thess 4.11a)
(1) Here is a purpose beyond riches (Psalm 39.6).
(2) There are difficulties in business: Risk (Psalm 107.23-28); Worry (Ecclesiastes 5.12, Matthew 31-34); Failure (Eccl 2.18-20). - 'Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings;' (Proverbs 22.29)
(1) 'Diligence' and 'industry' (Proverbs 6.6, 22.29, Hebrews 6)
(2) Integrity and honesty (Gen 39.6, 1 Samuel 12.3-4, Luke 10.37).
(3) Fidelity in stewardship (1 Corinthians 4.1-2, 1 Corinthians 6.20).
Conclusion: Christian truth belongs in the workplace.
