Romans 6, Lesson 6

260 ( 88 | 172 )

What we get from sin are shame and death. That is not the way we should aspire to live. It is insane to willfully do sinful behavior once you are saved. If we are in Christ, we are no longer slaves to sin, we are children of God. We need to forget what is behind and strain for what is ahead. Once in Christ, we cannot blame anyone but ourselves when we sin. It is God’s grace through the power of the Holy Spirit, that we can obey God. We must not read Romans chapter 7 out of context, we must read chapters 6, 7, and 8 together with the whole book of Romans. We died to sin at the cross. When we are baptized, we are saying that what Jesus did on the cross, He did for us. If our faith is based on wishful thinking alone, it is flaky and psychotic. The capacity to do things comes with obedience to God. If God says we can do it, we can do it. All people, everywhere, were slaves to sin, we in Christ, need to offer them freedom in Christ. Jesus offers freedom, only through the cross. We must die to self and enter into a new life. If someone does not want to go to Hell, but still wants to sin, that person is still under the bondage of sin and has not been set free. We should not give up our freedom for some momentary sin. We must be dead to sin but alive in Christ Jesus. When we are under grace, we are not under the law. We are set free. We have the power to do what Jesus says. We will either be slaves to sin or slaves to God. When we become Christians, we are saying that we belong to Jesus, we are not to offer our bodies to sin any longer. If we are in Christ, we don’t work for ourselves, we work for God. God’s will for our lives is perfect.
