Greetings and Grace

At first glance, these verses seem like little more than a formality, the letter-writing convention of the day. But then we remember that all scripture is breathed out by God and profitable. Why was it important that the grace of God be the final thought ringing in the Philippians' ears? Why do Christians still need grace?
