116

Introduction

I. The People’s Conviction & Question (v. 37; cf. Zech. 12:10ff)

I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and pleas for mercy, so that, when they look on Me, on Him whom they have pierced, they shall mourn for Him, as one mourns for an only child, and weep bitterly over Him, as one weeps over a firstborn…On that day there shall be a fountain opened for the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, to cleanse them from sin and uncleanness.

II. Peter’s Answer & Offer (v. 38)

A. Repentance

B. Faith (cf. 22:16; Joel 2:32)

And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved…those whom the LORD calls. (Joel 2:32)

…be baptized in the name of Jesus for the forgiveness of your sins…for the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to Himself. (Acts 2:38-39)

III. God’s Promise & Purpose (v. 39)
