The Glory of the Cross
Series Shame and the Glory (The)
71
There could hardly be anything more shameful than execution on a cross, but it is from here that our Lord's glory shines most clearly. He announces the judgement of the world and the downfall of its prince, and then says, 'Father, put your glory on display'. He places himself in the path of God's judgements that rightly should fall on us; he chooses to put his Father's glory above anything else; he reveals this hidden wisdom that Paul says is for our glory. Surely, glory belongs to this Lamb who ransoms us for God. The prayer of Moses, that God would reveal his glory, has been answered.
