Paul, A Slave of Jesus Christ

155

In this message Pastor Gordon examines the epistolary form used in ancient letters and shows that the Biblical writers use this form and elevate it by infusing it with rich spiritual content.

Paul's identification of himself as the writer of the letter is followed by a self description as a slave of Jesus Christ, a called Apostle, and one separated unto the gospel of God.

This message explores the richness of the concept of being a slave of Jesus Christ. Far from being a term of degradation and shame, a slave of Jesus Christ points to the following truths:

  1. Deliverance from a prior servitude to another Master.

  2. Debtorship to Jesus Christ, our new Master for the price that was paid for that deliverance.

  3. Dependance upon Jesus Christ our new Master for daily supplies and daily direction.

  4. Delight in Jesus Christ who is a Master worthy of love, devotion and constant commitment.
