Servant Leadership

162

Servanthood means sacrifice. I have always said, the leader is the one willing to sacrifice, or he is not a leader. It is about putting yourself aside and seeking to help others in any way you can. A servant leader leads by example or his leadership is in vain.
In the corporate church things are done much like they are in a worldly corporation. There are positions to fill. People fill out applications and candidate for positions. A church will look through a list, usually of people who live somewhere else, and see who might be able to fill the hole. I truly believe that God can raise up leadership from within. That it is better to see a per-son’s gifting and recognize it than it is to simply try to fill holes. I’m not saying the Lord could never lead us to someone from somewhere else, but what is the point of making disciples if we are not going to recognize gifting?
The reason a lot of churches structure things like corporations is because they actually are cor-porations. We are not. We are simply a part of the Body of Christ. A local church seeking to do His will. Thus our desire is to operate as a scriptural organization and not a corporate business.
Here’s the thing. If you don’t have a leader, you don’t have that ministry.
It is a mistake to simply try to fill holes. It’s easy to see needs. They are everywhere.
