Psalm 8

Psalm 8 is a joyful, celebratory song.
I. The glory of God as a matter for praise (verses 1-2)
A. We praise God as our God.
B. We praise God for his glory. (Revelation 4.8-11).
C. There is a praise of God even in infancy. (verse 2, Psalm 139.14).
II. The glory of man as a matter for praise (verses 3-8)
A. Our apparent insignificance. (8.3-4).
B. Our real significance. (Genesis 2.18, 22).
C. The honour of dominion. (verses 5 - 8, Genesis 1.26-28).
III .The glory of the Redeemer as a matter for praise
(2 Peter 1.19-21, 10-11).
A. The first hint of a relevance to Christ in this Psalm. (Matthew 21.15-16, Psalm 8.2).
B. The detailed exposition of the relevance of this Psalm to Christ. (Hebrews 2.6-8)
(i) Mankind does not yet have complete dominion.
(ii) The Lord Jesus Christ has secured absolute dominion. (Hebrews 2.9, John 1.14, Luke 24.25-26).
(iii) True dominion is restored to men in Christ alone. Paul continues. (Hebrews 2.10).
