Biblical Piety
It was amidst the crowd of worshippers, a poor, insignificant widow dropped an offering into one of the trumpets, an offering that clearly would have gone unnoticed by those in the court. See in Christ's day — much like our own — the worth of an individual was measured by what they had to offer! And thus, if you were a Jewish, free male with financial means, you were considered to be of great importance.
This is reflected in the disciple’s response to Christ’s words, “It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. And they were astonished out of measure, saying among themselves, Who then can be saved?” But if you were a woman, widow, or poor your worth would be very little.
