Being devout just doesn't cut it

13

Devout means to be religious, and many do declare themselves to be religious or devout. But when it comes down to it that's not what God is after. Cornelius however went a step further in his religious life that he wanted to know God; that being devout wasn't all he wanted to be. Despite his upbringing he knew he needed more in life. That the upholding of the law and religious beliefs are nice but not enough. This desire to know God is something that God honors, that He seeks for in us. Cornelius may not have known how to go about doing it exactly but that part is God's portion. God sent to him the means knowing Him just as He did for each of us. The Lord answered his prayers, because he prayed continuously just as God wants us to do. When we make the decision to be saved instead of being limited to just being devout we bring glory to God. The salvation He paid for with His Son is put to the use it was intended for. We were created to praise Him, worship Him, to talk with Him. Being devout only, really doesn't do that it's just there. Salvation means so much more, it opens up a whole other world to us. So the question is this, are we satisfied just being devout, just being good enough or do we want to be more?
