Show Us Something New!

Jesus preaches the gospel in Samaria without doing any great miracles, and many come to faith, but then when he goes back to the region where he grew up, Galilee, the people are not receptive to the gospel message and only interested in seeing new and exciting signs and wonders. 'Show us Signs and Wonders' they cry! These covenant people assume they do not need the salvation Jesus is proclaiming, and long exposure has 'innoculated' against the preaching of the gospel.

In the American church we see a similar phenomenon. People are 'bored' by the Gospel and insist on seeing something new; miracle healing services, laughing in the spirit, concerts, politicians, movie stars, anything but plain old gospel preaching.

Why is this and what can be done about it?
