Prov 4:23 "Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. "

1. The RESPONSIBILITY To Which We Must ATTEND

"Keep thy heart..."

This word "keep" can also be translated watchman. We must keep a vigil over our hearts. Think of an installation in a country like a power supply - if that country is at war it will guard and garrison that power supply to keep it from the enemy. We must do so with our hearts.

How?
i)Constant Fellowship with the Lord
ii)Vigilance - examine our hearts constantly. "Search me,oh God."

2. The RESOLUTENESS We Must APPLY

"with all diligence..."

We must have resolve, commitment,be determined. Sportsmen, career people are disciplined and have their goal constantly before them. The heart can be sabotaged and go into decline.

3. The REASON We Must APPRECIATE

Why is it such a big thing ?

"for out of it are the issues of life."

The heart is responsible for all that issues out from us - our words and actions. Like in a reservoir, the source needs to be pure - it effects the well being of others as well as oursleves. The mouth is an index of the heart - the jokes we tell, the gossip we speak.

Are you unsaved? Your unregenerate heart is vile in the Sight of God. It can be changed, by repenting and trusting in Christ alone for salvation.

"A new heart also will I give you..." Ezek 36:26
