How to Read the Bible: Westminster Confession 1.7-10
Series Westminster Confession Faith
210
The Bible is perspicuous (see-through-able). With appropriate effort, anyone can read it and learn the main things about God, themselves, and salvation. The Bible's message therefore is addressed to everyone: all are encouraged to read it, and all can use it. So that all can use it, people should be taught to read, and the Bible should be translated into everyday languages; but in all doctrinal controversies the Bible in its original Hebrew and Greek is the final authority. Finally, since one Spirit inspired the one Word of God, the Bible should be allowed to interpret itself, so that clear passages will explain less clear ones.
