Zechariah 11:1-17

284

Setting: ch 11 covers a timeframe from Zechariah's time when he's there and Israel is just got out of captivity, and Zechariah is telling them what is going to happen to them when the messiah comes the first time to the rejection of men, to the Jewish people getting rid of him, the cause of his reject, to the second coming of Christ and the tribulation. Chapter 11 covers a lot.
Vs1-3: in this time of Zechariah the great forest was there with wild animals running around. The cedars of Lebanon were huge trees, sometimes 40 feet in diameter. Zechariah said there's going to be an army come down through this forest and destroy and devastate this land. That happened. It's now a desert with no forests.

Vs4-6: God says you're supposed to feed the flock for slaughter. Zechariah tells the Israelites they're coming back into their land now. There is a conditional covenant for this return. Their blessings are dependent upon their behaviour. Their unconditional covenant is that God loves them no matter what and they will come back to their land in the future and He will rule from Jerusalem. The conditional covenant is based on their behaviour. He's talking about the Pharisees, scribes, priests and rulers using the people and getting wealthy off of the common man.

Vs7: Here he calls the Israelites a flock for slaughter. These are the small remnant that believes God. What percentage of people these days are following the Word of God? Probably the same number ...
