Guiding Principles

• Don't put stumbling blocks or hindrances in the way fellow believers
• Walk in Love
• Pursue Peace and Edification within the Body
• Know what You are Convicted of and Don't Adopt your Brother's View
• Don't Live your Life Like Others don't Exist or Matter
• Consider Others More Important then Liberty
• Enjoy the Liberties God has Provided
• Imitate the Lord's Willingness to Deny Himself for Others

The Principle of Edification

• The next thought we see regarding personal choices is the condition of my weaker brother in the Lord is my concern (8:7-13)
• At the core the issue in this text is not a sin issue (8)

What is legalism? Thoughts?

*Biblical use - In the first century, legalism was the belief that obedience to the Law of Moses was required for salvation

What is liberty? Thoughts?

• Biblical use - Our liberty was purchased with a great price.

Misguided Liberty

• Misguided popular use – Some use Liberty not as a reference to issues that are gray areas, but they use it in places that are expressly forbidden in scriptures.

Possible Sin Issue : The Weaker Brother

• The perspective of the weaker brother: if I go against my conscience,
  then it is wrong for me

Possible Sin Issue : The Stronger Brother

• The perspective of the stronger brother: if I cause someone else to
  fall, then it is sin for me
