Jesus' Cry of Forsakenness

Was Jesus' cry of abandonment by his Father only a feeling he had or had he really been forsaken? Jesus was fully God and fully man in one person - the mystery and truth of the incarnation. As the second person of the Godhead he had always been in perfect fellowship with his Father and this bond of fellowship within God himself could never be broken. Yet in his humanity Jesus as our sin-bearer and sacrifice did experience abandonment by the Father. Christ experienced this, what we deserved, in our place, so that we will never be abandoned or forsaken by God the Father.
