John 12:1-42

Chapter 12 is very interesting. We'll be discussing the passion of Christ.

1 Then Jesus six days before the passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus was which had been dead, whom he raised from the dead. This is 6 days before the Passover. Lazarus is alive, back in his home. They're having a supper, and Martha is serving. We'll really notice the different personalities of the people, and God uses everyone's personalities for His glory.
2 There they made him a supper; and Martha served: but Lazarus was one of them that sat at the table with him.
3 Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odor of the ointment. Mary is always interested in learning more about Christ. She'll let the household chores go in order to learn more about Him. This spikenard ointment is a very expensive, very pure ointment. This is a humbling event for Mary. She knows who Christ is, and she can't humble herself enough for Him.
4 Then saith one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, which should betray him, Notice this particular Judas is very specifically identified. Judas was a very common name back then.
5 Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor? 300 pence was a complete year's wages. She put a whole year's wages on Jesus Christ's feet.
6 This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein. Judas was a thief.
7 Then said Jesus, Let her alone: against the day of my burying hath she kept this. It was a prophetic event what she did...
