The husband vows to love his wife as Christ loves the church. Nowhere in the marriage covenant is this more clearly seen than in the husbands devotion to his wife's emotional needs. If he loves his wife as Christ loves the church then his devotion to her covenant needs includes personal sacrifice. Christ loves the church by listening to and receiving her prayers. A husband never goes to God in prayer only to find him to busy. God never says to a husband, “Not now! Why couldn't you have brought this up earlier. Why do you always wait till bedtime!?” No, God is willing to listen graciously and mercifully to us at anytime, anyplace on any issue and if we love our wives as Christ loves the church our emotional support of her will include an unrestricted listening ear. If we love our wives as Christ loves the church we will be willing to talk with her at anytime on any subject. We will never tire of assuring her of our love. We will never tire of assuring her of our commitment to the marriage. We will never tire of being transparent in all areas concerning who we are and what we are about.
