The Suffering Servant

This passage has been called the 'Holy of Holies of Old Testament prophecy. As Dr. Allan MacRae put it in his book, The Gospel of Isaiah, the idea of vicarious sacrifice for sin is 'so pervasive' in this chapter that 'it cannot possibly be removed except by grossly distorting the meaning of each statement.' This passage, so clearly setting forth the nature of 'God's suffering servant,' yet penned some 750 years before the birth of Jesus, is one of the best evidences we have for the inspiration of Scripture.
