God Will Judge the Secrets of Men by Jesus Christ

34

The universality and inevitability of the coming Day of Judgment is a pervasive theme in the whole of the Scriptures. Even the most cursory reading of the Bible will demonstrate this fact. Yet, it is in our text today where we find details of that judgment which are not so clearly revealed elsewhere. By what standard will people be judged? What about those who have never heard the gospel or even heard about the God of the Bible? While there remains some mystery which will never be revealed, our text opens up much of that mystery. Remember, the Holy Spirit is using the inspired apostle to build the foundation of the conclusion reached in chapter 3, verse 23; "…all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God…." The coming judgment will be universal and it is inevitable. This can be a terrifying thought if we perceive the perfect justice of the all-knowing and holy God. But the same apostle inspired to write Romans 3:23 was also inspired to write, "Who shall bring a charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies." (Romans 8:33) – Pastor Schlegel
