False Shepherds & The True Shepherd

In John 10 Jesus proclaims Himself as God’s Shepherd.

In Chapter 9 Jesus had healed a blind man on the Sabbath.

The Blind man’s physical eyes and spiritual eyes are both opened.

In John Chapter 9, we see that the blind man has a progressive understanding of who Jesus is.

1. A man called Jesus
2. A Prophet
3. A man from God
4. The Son of God, who is to be worshipped.

The blind man had testified to his neighbours and the Pharisees that it was Jesus who had given Him sight.

The Pharisees excommunicated the man from the Synagogue.

As God’s people we can also expect persecution: John 15:20

If you stand for Jesus you can expect opposition from two major fronts. You will have opposition from the world and you will have opposition from those that stand for the traditions of men.

Jesus exposed those that keep the Traditions of men rather than the Word of God.

If you are a believer expect persecution from the World and also from those that hold the traditions of men more dearly than the Word of God.

The religious leaders of the day should have been the Shepherds of God’s people. They had the Word of God. They knew the prophecies concerning the coming Messiah, yet they rejected Jesus and they rejected those that discovered who the Messiah was.

In John Chapter 10 Jesus proclaims Himself as the Good Shepherd in contrast with the bad Shepherds of Israel.

The bad shepherds were the Scribes and Pharisees and they upheld the Law without having love for the people.
