The Duty for Children: To Hear and to Hold

Dear ones, this Sunday we will begin to consider the duty of children in regard to their father's instruction and their mother's law as we open up Proverbs 1:7-9. How they receive this instruction has everything to do with how their future days will unfold; the chapter goes on to demonstrate that. Should we not expect that to be the case? If our children will not receive the God-given promise that comes with honoring their parents (Eph. 6:1-3), they will reap the whirlwind instead. Much is at stake in regard to their future, and much responsibility lies in our hands as parents. Yes, the text is an exhortation to children; but it presupposes there will be instruction for them to hear and a law to hold. May God grant all of us grace for the meeting of these expectations.
