Payment to Government and God
Series The Gospel of Mark
292 ( 146 | 146 )
The trap was set. The religious elite thought they'd get something incriminating on Jesus this time. They ask him about paying taxes. If he says they should pay, they'll accuse him of being a traitor to the Jews. If he says they shouldn't, he risks being accused of treason against Imperial Rome. His answer? "It's Caesar's money, and you're happy to receive his benefits, so pay up!" But more importantly, he tells them they should give praise and thanksgiving to God, and serve him with their whole being.
