Our good Shepherd

Our Lord said, "I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives his life for the sheep." Here he sets forth his claim, his cross and his care. He is the good Shepherd, appointed by God to reveal the compassion of one who truly loves his own. The great demonstration of this is in giving his life on the cross, having come into the world and taken our humanity to himself. The care he shows is to his own flock, toward whom all he is and does is directed. Such a good Shepherd gives us confidence in faith, comfort in trial, and courage in service.
