Worship - Its Complement Pt 1 [Music]

141

There is one related topic that must be considered as part of any consideration of Praise as a component of true Biblical worship.

It is that of music and the part that it should play in the worship services of the Church of Jesus Christ and among the people of God generally.

Within this related topic there are wide and varying extremes:
[1] One one hand we have the Pentecostal/Charismatic and Contemporary Worship movements that will employ virtually any instrument or group of instruments in the worship of God.

As we well know there are places today where you will find the Praise Band leading the worship. The Band will invariably consist of drums, along with other instruments.

The stage and the band have sadly become central in many a worship service and the pulpit is pushed/relegated to the sidelines if there at all.

Is this emphasis upon music proper? Is it just a matter of preference and personal taste and we shouldn't be overly concerned about it? Are we being just too rigid?

[2] On the other hand there are those who question whether there is any Biblical warrant for employing instruments in worship at all. Should we, as some do, sing our praise totally unaccompanied by any music whatsoever.
