THE FIFTH COMMANDMENT: THE PARENTS TASK (2)

I. OUR TASK AS PARENTS IS TO BE A KING LIKE GOD

A. As king we are not to provoke our children to wrath (Eph 6:1-4): How is that done?
B. How will we remain balanced and focused in this kingly task?

II. THE PARENTS' TASK IS TO BE ‘THE PRIEST BEFORE GOD'

A. A priest is a “man's representative before God” (Deut. 18:5)
B. Consider the two examples of exemplary father-priests

III. OUR PARENTAL TASK IS TO BE A PROPHET FOR GOD

A. A prophet is “God's spokesperson to men” (Deut. 18:15-22)
B. A prophet is one who brings God's Word in connection with all decision-making!

CLOSING THOUGHTS:
A. Empty traditions easily lead to empty confessions!
B. Narrow interpretations often lead to loose applications!
