THE GLORY OF THE HIGH PRIEST

I. The glory of the High Priest as seen in His willing offer of Himself

A. Every fact of His arrest reveals His willingness to give Himself as the Lamb of God
B. These historical facts reveal God's redemptive provision

II. The glory of the High priest as seen in His resolute refusal of the sword

A. Peter's action was more than an ignorant reaction of a devoted disciple (John 13:37)
B. Jesus' command to Peter is to further correct his wrong understanding (Matt. 16:23)

III. The Glory of the High priest is seen in His acceptance of the Father's cup

A. The cup Jesus is accepting is the cup of God's righteous sentence upon sin
B. This cup was given Him by His Father
C. This cup the High priest didn't only accept: He emptied it!
D. A believer's cup today may be bitter but has been sweetened by Christ.

Closing Truth:
Though all believers fall through the weakness of the flesh into sin, they
are not to despair of God's mercy as displayed in Christ!
