David's Son, Yet David's Lord

47 ( 30 | 17 )

After Jesus refutes the Pharisees and Sadducees, He takes the lead in asking questions of them. He points out the obvious meaning of Psalm 110, that Messiah must be David's Lord. And yet, this plain, obvious and necessary conclusion had escaped the notice of the religionists of His day. Had they observed, and considered, what this meant, their entire religious system would have collapsed. The Sadducees would have seen the resurrected Messiah. The Pharisees would have seen salvation through the priest-king at God's right hand, instead of by works. Yet, owing more allegiance to their system than to the Scriptures, they blindly ignored it. Yet, Jesus reveals to us the meaning. Messiah was not an earthly king like David. He was the Son of God, who after His time on earth is equal with God, at God's right hand; and who saves by being both a king and priest.
